At just 28, Tan Hui Ling leads Rental Hearts, a non-profit organisation providing free tuition to underprivileged children living in rental flats across 4 different locations, covering the North, South, East and West of Singapore all while juggling a full-time career in healthcare.
Hui Ling began volunteering when she was still in Junior College and there she found her passion for working with children, motivating her to continue doing what she did even in university and adult life. What began as casual volunteering when she first joined Rental Hearts, soon became a long-term commitment when she stepped up as its director in 2021.
Today, she manages about 30 student volunteer teachers and supports 50 to 60 students across four rented locations. Despite the risk of losing their Redhill location at Little Dolphins Development Center, Hui Ling remains undeterred, not letting this major challenge get in the way of Rental Hearts’ support for the children.
