If the past two weeks have told us anything, it’s that Singaporeans just can’t agree on priority seating in the MRT trains. Some say their very existence shows that civic-mindedness is dead in Singapore, while others are adamant that nobody will remember how to be gracious if we do away with them. There are now more layers to The Art of Taking A Seat on the MRT than a gourmet kueh lapis, and our overthinking of the priority seats has only succeeded in making a simple concept very, very complicated.
